Critic Review On Aamir Khan Starrer Thugs of Hindostan

The much talked about film of 2018 ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ finally hit the screens on 8th November 2018. The films stars Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, and Fatima Sana Sheikh. Made with a budget of around Rs 300 crore, the Diwali release film had raised great expectations in minds of fans. However, seems like the film failed to impress the fans and critics.

Set in the backdrops of late 1790s, the movie is about a thug named Khudabaksh Azaad (character played by Amitabh Bachchan) and his gang who became a serious challenge to the Britishers in India between 1790 to 1805. They aimed to free India from Britishers. To counter the threat caused by the gang, British commander John Clive sent a small-time thug from Awadh Firangi Mallah (character played by Aamir Khan). The film is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and produced by Aditya Chopra.

Thugs of Hindostan Review:

Renowned film critic Taran Adarsh called the film disappointing and gave it a 2 star. He wrote on Twitter,

“#OneWordReview… #ThugsOfHindostan: DISAPPOINTING.
All that glitters is NOT gold… Holds true for #TOH… Some engrossing moments in the first hour, that’s about it… Formula-ridden plot, screenplay of convenience, shoddy direction are the main culprits..”

He further wrote, “#ThugsOfHindostan may reap the benefit of the holiday period + tremendous hype + impressive names in its cast… But will find it difficult to sustain after the initial euphoria settles down… #TOH is a golden opportunity lost, a KING-SIZED DISAPPOINTMENT!”

Rajeev Masand summed up the film review in one small line by saying, “Gonna need some drugs to get over the Thug.”

Sumit Kadel rated the film 1 star and wrote on his Twitter handle, “Complete waste of Money, Talent & Resources, Aamir Khan weakest film this decade. Shoddy Screenplay, Mundane action sequences, extremely lousy direction & a bygone story defines thugs of Hindostan. Not even massy enough.”

Here are some more reactions:

Well, these critic reviews suggest that the film is a total disaster. Trade analyst Shiva Satyam predicted that the film won’t be earning more than Rs 200 crore at the box office and even the A-lister cast won’t be able to save the film.

The film has been a huge disappointment owing to the track record of Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan. Aamir is known to give blockbusters and his last release Dangal was a superhit worldwide.

TOH was released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu with IMAX and 3D Formats. The film was released in 7,000 screens worldwide. This includes 5,000 screens in India and the rest 2,000 screens overseas.
